An Update on Evan Bouchard's next Contract
The Edmonton Oilers have yet to finalize a new contract with RFA Evan Bouchard as the season approaches.
Despite the recent Ryan McLeod deal, there has been no compromise between the team and Bouchard, and Kurt Leavins, an NHL Insider, reports that the issue is not the AAV but rather the distribution of the deal.
Stauffer said a short while back that he'd be surprised if Bouchard didn't sign by the 15th of August. Well... today is August 15th isn't it?
Bouchard's camp may be looking to backload the second year of the deal, leading to a larger qualifying offer in 2024-2025.
However, after proving himself as a power-play quarterback and earning 40 points while playing alongside Mattias Ekholm, it may not be unreasonable to pay Bouchard what he wants.
The potential bridge deal for Bouchard could set the tone for future contracts.
