The Oilers have realized their goal of getting younger this season by shipping out a slew of veteran talent in favour of a few rookies like
Isaac Howard, Matthew Savoie, and
David Tomasek - but they may not be done tweaking this roster.
Analyst names 3 most likely players to be traded next by Edmonton Oilers
The Edmonton Oilers have a thin pool of available trade assets this season, so if they want to pursue a true upgrade at any position, they may have to move out NHL level players like Skinner, Savoie, and Podkolzin.
It is not a guarantee. Excluding future draft picks, who are the (three) most valuable trade pieces between today and the trade deadline in 2026? Stuart Skinner, Matthew Savoie, Vasily Podkolzin.'

Further into the organization, the Oilers could deal away some top-end prospects from their previous administration, like
Beau Akey or the rights to KHLer Maxim Beryozkin.
The problem is, those types of assets may not be enough to acquire a piece that could tilt the Oilers' chances at a Stanley Cup. They'll likely have to give up more from their actual NHL roster.
Oilers could trade Stuart Skinnee in package deal for goalie upgrade
Matthew Savoie is expected to make this year's roster and could play top-six minutes if his game translates well to the NHL. After a quality season in the AHL the Oilers have high hopes for the former 9th overall draft pick - but if he isn't ready for a playoff run and the Oilers can move him for immediate help, they'll have to consider it.
Vasily Podkolzin is another younger player at 24 years old, but he's been in the NHL for some time and struggled to produce points. There's still potential for a breakout year, and even his floor as a two-way top 9 forward could entice a rebuilding team.
Finally, Stuart Skinner is the highest profile player the Oilers could move. If they finally do acquire an established starting goalie, sending back the 25 year old Skinner with 2 Cup Finals of experience could interest any other team. His stats may be lower than ideal, but another team could believe a fresh start could help Skinner.
If next year's season is successful and the young guns hit the ground running, maybe the team won't have to make a deal with any of these young pieces. But if they're searching for a push at the trade deadline, trading these young players could net a star level talent for the Oilers.
