Oilers Foegele gets jumped in fight after sending Erik Karlsson into boards
Moments ago in today's game with the Oilers visiting the Penguins, a somewhat rare sight occurred. Oilers forward Warren Foegele was heading into the boards and caught Erik Karlsson with a high stick that sent him falling into the boards. Penguins defenceman John Ludvig must've thought Karlsson got boarded, as he came over and jumped Foegele for touching their star player.
Ludvig had the element of surprise in attacking Foegele and definitely got the best of him, throwing enough left hooks to send him to the ice. Ludvig seemed livid that Foegele boarded Karlsson, not even knowing that it was only a high stick. For the play, Foegele was given a double minor penalty for the high stick, but Ludvig was given an instigator penalty and an ejection. Both were given fighting majors.
It marked Foegele's first actual fight in his career since his days in junior hockey. Between Foegele answering the bell here in his fight against Ludvig, Mattias Janmark and Sam Carrick also fighting recently, the Oilers bottom six is clearly playing a tougher style of hockey heading into the playoffs.
