In the first 17 games of this Maple Leafs season, it appeared that William Nylander was never going to stop scoring, continuing to pile on the points and have a career year, which happens to be his contract year.
However, after general manager Brad Treliving failed to lock him into a new deal before the season started, Leafs fans noticed that Nylander was on a mission.
This continued through Sweden when they played the Global Series, and he had a fairy tale ending, scoring the overtime winner against the Minnesota Wild.
Since returning to North America, Nylander has looked invisible at times, going without a goal since November 24th. During tonight's game against the Boston Bruins, in a hectic overtime, Nylander made a blunder that cost the team the game.
He took a sharp left turn and fell to the ice, allowing David Pasternak to pick up the puck for a breakaway, which Joseph Woll stopped.
Over the past three games, he has been pointless, with only two assists in the past five. Could this be a trend that will continue, or is this just a cooling-off period? Only time will tell.
