The Edmonton Oilers have many decisions to make in the coming weeks and months, and it appears that two more Oilers veterans may be on their way out to help clear cap space this summer.
According to Oilers insider Bob Stauffer, it seems that Oilers forwards
Viktor Arvidsson and
Corey Perry may be on the outside looking in as the team needs to clear cap space to sign other players.
Arvidsson simply has not worked out for the Oilers
Last summer, many felt that the Oilers made a bold move by taking a chance on Arvidsson as he had dealt with many injuries prior to his arrival.
Then general manager Jeff Jackson felt that Arvidsson's scoring potential was what the Oilers lacked and felt that he was the answer by giving him a contract of two years worth $8,000,000 while holding the cap yet a $4 million per season.
The Oilers even gave him a no movement clause which could lead to issues this offseason. His point production was dreadful when it came to the regular season as he had played 67 games, scoring 15 goals with 12 assists for 27 points and was a - 3 with 15 minutes and average ice time.
Many feel that the Oilers are ready to move on and are currently fielding offers and calls to see if a team would be willing to take on Arvidsson contract despite having a no move clause.
Clearing that kind of cap space is what the Oilers need as they need to improve their roster in their bottom six forwards and add more depth to the team in secondary scoring.
Other Oilers players may be on the move including Perry
Other players on the roster may be on the move including 40-year-old Corey Perry who appears to be ready for one more season but may look elsewhere as the Oilers have other players especially within the Bakersfield Condors who could step in and are far younger.
Some have even suggested the Oilers may need to move on from
Adam Henrique and defenseman
Brett Kulak which is possible as Oilers general manager Stan Bowman will look at any options to help improve his roster.
Former Oilers fan favourite
Klim Kostin has also been rumored to be on his way back to the Oilers as he wont be given a qualifying offer.
The Oilers will certainly be examining their position in goal as
Stuart Skinner and
Calvin Pickard have not lived up to the need to help carry the team forward into winning consistently.
The Oilers have already begun their changes as they have sent
Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a fourth round pick.
More trades are on the horizon as the Oilers do not have a first or a second round pick this year and will likely scout the free agent market while trying to lock up defenseman
Evan Bouchard and superstar
Connor McDavid to a long term deal.
