The Edmonton Oilers lost Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to the St. Louis Blues last offseason to offer sheets, and it turned out to be a great move for the two young players.
Both Broberg and Holloway went on to have career-best seasons in St. Louis and emerged as star players for the Blues' future. They were originally signed to cheaper deals with offer sheets, but now a massive pay raise is in order.
Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway set to receive major salary raises on next contracts
If I'm them, I'm looking for $8 million to $9 million AAV. With a new collective bargaining agreement in 2026-27, seven years will be the max. But if they don't get $8 million to $9 million AAV, they might want a shorter term.

Both players had incredible breakout years with the Blues, but it's shocking to see them climb up to near double-digit salaries already. They're both entering the final season of their contracts, and will still be RFAs upon expiry of their deals.
Broberg missed some time with injury, but was one of the NHL's biggest breakout stories at the beginning of the season. He finished with an impressive 29 points in 68 games, playing a feature role with the team. Holloway was arguably even better despite receiving less attention, scoring 63 points in 77 games.
The Oilers surely regret losing both young players after they'd developed them into NHLers entering their primes. However, if it came down to having to pay them close to $10M in 2026-27, the Oilers would have had no shot at keeping them.
Hopefully at least the Oilers have learned their lesson about giving young players more opportunity.
