Trade talks between Oilers' Stan Bowman and Red Wings' Steve Yzerman regarding Detroit's goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa have escalated of late, according to analysts.

Much has been written of late about Edmonton's interest in the hulking goalie prospect. At 6'7", he continues the NHL trend of drafting big goalies that cover a larger part of the net. Properly developed, Cossa could have a stabilizing effect in the Oilers' goal.
Analyst speaks about Stan Bowman's escalated trade-talks with Red Wings' GM
On an episode of Sekeres & Price analyst Cam Robinson spoke about the prolonged trade talk.
"They're looking a little more long-term, they've got their field of vision a little bit wider," Robinson said of the Oilers' goalie search. "I was told that they have contacted Detroit...They have a six-foot-six, six-foot-seven, former first-rounder in Sebastian Cossa sitting there."

Cossa is a former 15th-overall draft pick by Detroit in 2021, but with veterans and proven starters John Gibson and Cam Talbot in their system, Yzerman will be looking to move one of their young netminders for a return.
"If I were Detroit," Insider Bob Stauffer said, "I'd wanna get a first-rounder back. I mean, they drafted him with a mid-first round pick. I would think that would be what they kind of be looking for in return, but I have no idea [what Red Wings GM] Steve Yzerman [is thinking]."

But Stan Bowman does know what Steve's thinking, and you can be assured that if they are still having on-going discussions, the asking price for Cossa is being entertained by Edmonton.

In 41 games of AHL action in 2024-25, Cossa started in 41 games, with a record of 21-15-5, with a 2.45 GAA and a .911 SV %.

In 2023-24, also in the AHL with Grand Rapids, Sebastian started in 40 games, and finished with a record of 22-9-8, and a 2.41 GAA and a .913 SV%. His consistency winning games has scouts raving about the big goalie's skills.

We will keep you posted as more news becomes available.
