Serious doubts raised on new Oilers forward staying in NHL this season

Contrary to what many analysts believe about new Oilers prospect Isaac Howard, recent reports suggest the smallish forward struggles defensively, and may start the season in the AHL.
The 21-year old Howard is 5'10" and weighs pounds, and has all the offensive talent a coach could hope for. Yet, too much focus on offense usually comes at the expense of a player's development on his defense.
Analysts claims Isaac Howard may be too small to be an effective top-4 winger in the NHL
By most accounts, Howard has been projected to play in the top-4, even on the top lines with
Connor McDavid, and/or
Leon Draisaitl. But analyst Robert Gable believes otherwise.
"Howard isn't the biggest winger," Gable posted on social media. "He can be pushed to the outside and doesn't have the super-high compete level you would ideally like at his size. He projects at a middle-6."
It is true that Isaac is still developing his skill, and that most scouting reports are based on his junior career; but Howard has shown to be a talented forward, with good skating skills and a high-ceiling.
Stan Bowman would not have acquired Isaac Howard, and made the projections he has concerning his upside, and his place on the roster, if he didn't think the prospect could compete. The Oilers have strong belief that Howard will be an impact player this year.
However, Howard isn't the biggest winger. He can be easily pushed to the outside and doesn't have the super high complete level you would ideally like at his size. He projects at a middle-6 scoring winger in the NHL
