Oilers connected to major trade for Boston Bruins first round draft pick

According to analyst David Staples, the Edmonton Oilers may acquire former 1st-round pick Fabian Lysell from the Boston Bruins.
Though the possible trade negotiations are not exactly public at this point, news of the trade was obtained by a reliable source close to the Boston Bruins, hockey writer and analyst Dominic Triano.

Incidentally, Boston drafted Lysell one pick before Edmonton took Xavier Bourgault, whom the Oilers traded last summer following two unimpressive AHL campaigns.
Fabian Lysell's AHL career, however, has been somewhat more successful. In 2023-24, playing for the Providence Bruins, Fabian recorded 15G and 35A in 56 games, and 11G and 23A in 52 games during the 2024-25 AHL campaign.
Lysell's strengths are his fast skating and elite passing. That he is only 22 years-old and getting better speaks to his upside. For the Oilers, he would fit the team's mandate of becoming younger and more skilled, while adding future depth to the top-6.
Bruins coach Joe Sacco commented on Fabian's play in the AHL:
«The reports from Providence are all positive as far as his game down there. Not just offensively but his 200-foot game, his play away from the puck, his ability to stay on pucks, the things that we need to see from some of the young players."
