With his personal trials behind him, Milan Lucic has received a PTO offer from the St. Louis Blues, according to an NHL News. social media posting.
The official team announcement will be made later this morning, and is expected to receive wide media attention because of Milan's arrest last November for assault and battery. The charges have since been dropped.
St. Louis PTO marks a possible return to the NHL for Milan Lucic
On July 1, 2023, Lucic signed as a free agent with Boston. He would play that season, but dressed in only four games during the 2023-24 campaign, because of injury and an indefinite leave of absence, a culmination of his personal struggles.
It seems, however, that Milan is set to make a comeback with St. Louis, and continue a career that saw him play 17 years, including a Stanley Cup win with the Boston Bruins in 2010-2011.
Oilers fans, however, will remember Milan Lucic fondly for the 3-years he spent in Edmonton, during which time he was a commanding presence, playing a physical brand of hockey fans loved to watch.
In 243 games played with Edmonton, between 2016-17 and 2018-19, Milan scored 39G and 65A, though he's remembered more for his timely hits and fearlessness on the LW.
Milan Lucic had signed a 7-year deal with Edmonton, but played for only only 3; he was eventually traded to the Calgary Flames for James Neal.
Milan Lucic had played in 1177 NHL games before he was rendered ineligible to play by the NHL. Despite his personal hardships, it is a mark that only few players achieve, and is a testament to his ability to adjust his game, and keep pace with younger, faster players.
With NHL training camps set to begin in mid-September, we will learn soon enough whether the former Oiler favorite has made the necessary adjustments for a return to action.
