The Edmonton Oilers had been heavily connected to forward Brett Leason on a tryout contract, who has just signed a deal with the Minnesota Wild.

For much of the offseason, Oilers insiders have mentioned Leason as one of the top candidates to sign in Edmonton - and now one perfect fit remains with forward Klim Kostin.

Brett Leason signs PTO contract with Minnesota Wild after connection to Oilers

The 26 year old Alberta-born Leason is a big body at 6'5, and plays a physical style in the bottom six. That's one element the Oilers may be lacking in their forward lineup, and now will be heading to Minnesota.
Now that Leason has signed with Minnesota, it looks like Klim Kostin returning to the Edmonton Oilers could be far more likely. In a recent piece for the Edmonton Journal, analyst Kurt Leavins revealed his belief the Oilers will pivot to Kostin for some 4th line toughness.
At the very least, winger Brett Leason has a PTO in Minnesota. I still believe among some KHL options Klim Kostin has the Oilers in his thoughts and vice-versa. Edmonton could use another rugged winger.

Also 26 years old and a physical force at 6'4 and 232 pounds, Kostin would be a great addition to the Oilers lineup. In 2022-23, Kostin had an electric 57 game run with the Oilers where he put up career bests of 11 goals and 21 points.

His career has tailed off since leaving Edmonton, but Kostin has made it personally clear that he'd love to play for the Oilers again - even passionately speaking about the fanbase.

Kostin will give the Oilers 100% effort and toughness on the 4th line, likely for a league minimum contract. This should be a no-doubter signing for Edmonton before the start of training camp.
