Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner has admitted a major mistake he made last season, and the corrections he's making this season.

Skinner's future with the Edmonton Oilers is currently up in the air entirely entering next season. He's lost the starter's net two years in a row, and there's significant reports of the Oilers looking at other goalie options.

In a new interview with Derek Van Diest of NHL.com, Skinner admitted that he may have overworked himself with intensive offseason training last season, and will have a more relaxed approach this year hoping to be fresh for as long as possible.
«I think I got back on the ice a little too quick last summer, talking about the experience part again. Going into the season, I want to be as fresh as I can, as strong as I can.

Just mentally being able to let go and put hockey aside for a couple of weeks and have that excitement of wanting to get back and get back on the ice and get back to work, I've definitely found that. It was hard to stay off as long as I did, but that's a really good sign. It means you really love the game, and I'm really excited to be back on the ice.

The Oilers goaltender has just got back on the ice for the first time since the Cup Final loss recently, practicing with private coaches in Kelowna, BC.
Skinner clearly did have more consistency issues as the season wore on and into the playoffs, so making an adjustments with the postseason in mind is a good change for the Oilers goalie. Also working with a new coach in Steve Aubry, Skinner has plenty of hope to improve for next season.
If he falters early on in the season, or looks anywhere close to the sub-.900 save percentage he posted last season, the Oilers' biggest priority will be trading for a new starting goalie for the playoffs.
