One NHL insider believes the two most likely candidates for Oilers tryout contracts are forwards Klim Kostin and Brett Leason.
The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to several tryout contract candidates, with Kostin and Leason named numerous times by the most informed insiders - which may mean they're leading candidates.

A lot of chatter out there about possible PTOs. Two skaters who I have written about in the recent past are still possibilities for the Oilers. Former Oiler Klim Kostin is one. Alberta kid Brett Leason is another.

If these two forwards are the who the Pislds are interested in, they're looking to add more physicality into their bottom six. It is one of the elements they're lacking up front.
Oilers fans will certainly remember Klim Kostin for his incredible 2022-23 season in Edmonton. The Russian power forward scored 11 goals and 21 points in 57 games with the Oilers, having a great playoff showing too.
His career has certainly taken a sharp downturn in his time with the Sam Jose Sharks, but there's a chance he could regain the spark again with the Oilers. They don't need much from him, other than throwing the body on the 4th line.
Brett Leason is another imposing forward at 6'5 and over 220 pounds. A native of Calgary, Leason has found himself without a contract after 3 seasons with the Anaheim Ducks and 220 NHL games.
Not much of a scorer, Leason could also provide a physical presence for the Oilers in their bottom six.
The Oilers have a need and room for a physical bottom six player, but they won't need both. Whichever player they acquire and stands out in training camp on a tryout will earn a contract, and a role as the team's tough guy.
