The Edmonton Oilers may be forced into sending Mattias Janmark to the AHL for cap savings if no trade partner can be found for him.
Oilers may have to send Janmark to AHL if no trade can be found
Analyst Allan Mitchell has placed Janmark into his category of uncertain Oilers heading into next season. Along with it, he raises the possibility that there is no trade market for Janmark, which may lead to an AHL demotion.
Does the organization trade or demote Mattias Janmark? So, the large forward group here is intertwined and the positions have less certainty than we'd like because of those questions.

Now 32 years old, Janmark is signed for the next two seasons at just $1.45M, but it's still an overpay. Janmark has scored just 6 goals in his last 151 games, and the Oilers simply have options who could do better for cheaper.
Janmark is a solid defensive forward who excels on the penalty kill, and still clocks as one of the faster skaters in the league per NHL Edge. Given his playoff pedigree - an impressive 113 career postseason games - it's surprising another team wouldn't be interested in him.
But the harsh reality is that you need to bring some sort of offensive threat, and Janmark just hasn't done that enough in 2 seasons. The Oilers need to explore other options, even if that includes demoting Janmark to the AHL.
The fact that there's no trade interest for him across the league shows that it's probably time for the Oilers to move on.
