Rogers and Sportsnet's current deal for the NHL Broadcast rights is set to expire in 2026, and now several reports are surfacing that major changes will be coming soon in Canada.

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, Bell Media and TSN are entering the discussion to buy back some of the rights to broadcast national games after the 2025-26 season.

There's been several reports that Sportsnet has taken a huge financial loss on the NHL rights deal, and they may even offload some of the right before their deal expires. Earlier this week, there was reports that Sportsnet may sell the rights to Monday night games to Amazon.

It seems that Sportsnet is set to offload most, if not all of the rights to broadcast NHL games within the next few years. This will be a major change for how hockey fans watch hockey in Canada, and may even bring consequential change to the national landmark broadcast of Hockey Night in Canada.

We'll have to see how it plays out within the next few years, but it's encouraging to hear TSN is still engaged enough to compete for national rights. As well as TSN, Amazon and other streaming services could emerge as a primary broadcaster of the NHL, much like has already occurred in the NFL and MLB. With how stale the Sportsnet broadcast has become, any big changes will be very welcome.
