Oilers will ask forward to waive trade protection this offseason, per insider
Viktor Arvidsson struggled to find a fight in the Edmonton Oilers' roster this season, and now insider Jason Gregor believes he will waive his no-move clause for a trade this summer.
The Oilers were healthy scratching Arvidsson at the beginning of the playoffs this season, and though he's back in the lineup now, he doesn't appear to fit in their future plans.
Oilers insider Jason Gregor reports Arvidsson will agree to trade this offseason
[Arvidsson] has a No-Movement Clause (NMC), but my understanding is that won't be a huge hurdle. I could see a trade that benefits both parties. Edmonton frees up some cap space and Arvidsson goes to a team where he will play more.
- Jason Gregor
Arvidsson is a 32 year old veteran of 613 NHL games, and has been a consistent offensive player over his career. His 15 goals and 27 points in 67 games with the Oilers this year was among the worst years of his career.
For most of this year, Arvidsson struggled to stay in the top six and achieved no powerplay time. Gregor strongly believes that he'll agree to a trade to get more ice time, and the Oilers will free up all $4M of his annual salary.
Hopefully the Oilers will be able to get an asset back in return for Viktor Arvidsson, and will be able to find a better fit for a second line winger for next season.
