With Oilers' training camp set to begin in mid-September, two notable roster players may not be available to participate because of injury.

A third player, 25-year old Alec Regula, may also be absent from camp because of a knee injury he sustained when with the Boston Bruins, at their 2024 training camp, coincidentally.
Alec missed the entire 2024-25 season, and was subsequently claimed off the waiver wires by the Edmonton Oilers. No official word has been given by the Oilers about his progress, though he is listed as day-to-day, and probable to be at training camp.
The two injuries that could have the most serious impact on the Oilers opening-day lineup are Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman.
RNH is listed as day-to-day, for an injury he received after playing with a broken hand in the Stanley Cup Finals. His return is also listed as probable for the season-opener.
In 2024-25, RNH scored 20 goals and 29 assists, playing 18:58 TOI, numbers that are not easily replaced should he be placed on the IR, or LTIR.
Zach Hyman is also listed as day-to-day because of a wrist injury. Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton commented that he wasn't certain if Zach Hyman would be available for training camp.
Zach scored 27 goals and 17 assists in the 2024-25 regular season. Yet, it's not just his production that is difficult to replace on the Oilers' roster, but his all-around, relentless play. Hyman adds intangibles to the game that cannot be taught.
Should any of these three players begin the season on the IR, they will have to miss at least the first 7-days of the season.
Should any of them be placed on the LTIR, they will be prevented from playing at least 10 games and 24 days of the 2025-26 season, though their salaries can be used to exceed the team's salary.
Alec Regula, who agreed to terms on a 2-year, 2-way contract, will have the least roster-impact, as he is not guaranteed a spot, and will likely be competing for a role in the AHL.

Do you think the Oilers should sign Zach Hyman when his contract expires in two years, at the age of 35?
