With this month's Chicago Blackhawks signing of rookie Frank Nazar to a 7-year deal, and a $6.6M cap hit, the team has set the potential market for Edmonton's top prospects.

Frank Nazar was Chicago's 13th overall draft pick in 2022. At 21-years old, he played in only 56 games last year, scoring 13G and 14A, and skating a total of 15:53 TOI.
The numbers aren't exactly spectacular, but the Blackhawks clearly think highly of Nazar, who the team projects will be a star for years to come.
The Oilers have two of their own 21-year olds, who also project to be stars, in top-roles playing alongside McDavid and Draisaitl, and competing for a Calder Trophy this coming season.
Though Savoie and Howard have yet to accumulate any NHL experience, their junior numbers are comparable to Frank Nazar's, who with the University of Michigan in 2023-24, scored 17G and 24A.
In 2024-24 with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Savoie scored 19G and 28A in 23 games played; Howard, in 2024-25 with Michigan State, scored 26G and 26A in 37 games played. Similar, if not better, than Nazar's stats.
So where does that leave the Edmonton Oilers next year? Well, Savoie is eligible to sign July 1, 2026. If he has a 2025-26 season close, or better than Nazar's last, then expect an AAV of $6M to $7M, if they land on 7-years.
Howard's will be similar, if he can score 15-20 goals next season, and 20 assists. If he plays to expectation, that is where his point total should fall.
Savoie brings speed, skill and a high hockey I.Q. Howard is a double-threat winger with a lethal shot. Though his defensive play needs work, he is expected to be a future core-player nonetheless. There has been Calder Trophy talk for both - what does that tell you about them.
All said and done, if both, or one of Howard and Savoie should have the kind of season the Oilers are hoping for, the team will gladly sign them to Nazar numbers, or better.
