With the Oilers struggling to find momentum, they may do well to look to the Bakersfield Condors for help, with three players in particular turning heads.
Oilers' prospect leading all rookies in AHL
Winger
Isaac Howard was assigned to the AHL's Bakersfield Condors to make room for
Zach Hyman's return to the Oilers' lineup, and it may be just what he needed to find a spark in his game.
In his first games with the Condors Howard has performed well, having scored 2G and 2A in his first 2 AHL games.
Playing on the first line with
Quinn Hutson, Howard has managed to not only demonstrate chemistry with his linemates, but play the kind of offensive game he is known for, that which made him successful in the NCAA.
Well before Howard arrived, however, Quinn Hutson was doing big things, leading all AHL rookies in scoring.
The right winger is on fire. In his 15-games with Bakersfield, he's scored 7G and 8A for 15 points and is a plus-5. He's also shown some aggression, picking up 14 minutes in penalties. To cap it all off, Hutson has 3 game winning goals.
He's been clutch and it's just what the big-club needs. Expect to see him with the Oilers soon, especially after he got a look with the team last season.
Finally,
Connor Ingram was acquired for insurance in goal, and though his overall play in the AHL hasn't given the club confidence, his last few games has, picking up 2 wins.
Of course, he was always going to be a reclamation project, having missed a good chunk of action these last two season for personal reasons.
Yet, he's shown recently that his development is on target; he will at some point get his chance to play with Edmonton, especially given Skinner's struggles and Stan Bowman's reluctance to look externally for another goalie.
