Oilers prospect finally gets promotion after taking action against his team
Oilers defence prospect Nikita Yevseyev appears to have received a major promotion to the first pair on his KHL team this year.
Now 21 years old, Yevseyev has already played in 3 KHL seasons, but was harshly benched by Kazan Ak-Bars. He sued the team for refusing to play him, and now has landed in a better opportunity with a new team.
Nikita Yevseyev gets major promotion to top pairing of KHL team
In some games last season, Yevseyev was playing just seconds of ice time. In his first game this season with Khabarovsk Amur, Yevseyev was in a much better situation.
Oilers prospect experts tracking the game revealed that Yevseyev led his team in ice time, played over 4 minutes on the powerplay, and had a quality showing in Game 1.
This is obviously a step in the right direction for Yevseyev's development as a prospect, but leading his team in ice time at 21 years old and having success should catch the attention of the Oilers.
Drafted in the 6th round by Edmonton in 2022, Yevseyev has the physical profile and talent that could translate to being an NHL defender.
He's a smooth-skating two way left shot defender, which will be a position of need for the Oilers in a few years. Earlier this offseason, it was rumoured the Oilers may sign him to an entry level contract.
Now that Yevseyev is seeing more ice time in the KHL, the Oilers will keep a closer eye on him to track his developments and hopefully bring him to North America in a few years.
