Oilers insider Bob Stauffer sat down and interviewed assistant coach and Oilers legend Paul Coffey on how he works with his blue liners and whether he uses analytics.

The team is still reeling from their loss in game six of the Stanley Cup finals with Stauffer giving insight into how the Oilers legend works.

Coffey reveals his stance on analytics and defense

During the interview, staffer asks coffee whether he uses analytics as a tool to help him devise a strategy with his blue liners and the overall defensive play of the team.
«I mean, [Analytics] is a tool, but I personally don't use it. There's nothing wrong with it. I think it's great. But, you know, people maybe question some of the stuff I did this year, but there's always been a method to my madness. I know how to coach. I know how to understand guys. And I know how to move them in and around when the game is stale is beneficial to them.» - Paul Coffey

It's safe to say that this man is quite familiar on how to coach teams and how to coach players and since his arrival back with the team, the Oilers defence has been far better Ann has helped them propel to the finals two years in a row.
Despite the improvements, there are people who feel that the Oilers need to change when it comes to coaching especially in the defence and or goaltending.
Some feel that Dustin Schwartz needs to be relieved of his duties and a new goalie coach should be installed in the team as both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard attempt to be ready for next year's season.
Both goaltenders are signed through next season and depending on whether general manager Stan Bowman wishes to upgrade through free agency or trade, both men will be run back between the pipes.

Nurse also been targeted in trade rumors

Aside the goaltending, many feel that Darnell Nurse would be another player of interest who should be on the move considering how much cap space he uses and the defence game that he plays.
Nurse has been in trade rumors lately but it's highly unlikely that Oilers would move him as his contract would be quite difficult.
It's safe to say that Nurse and Coffey are here to stay and it remains to be seen on how the team will look at its defence score and make improvements as the offseason continues.
The Oilers along with the rest of the NHL are preparing 4 unrestricted free agency which will begin on July 1st and at that point all bets are off on what may happen with the team.
