The Edmonton Oilers are clearly looking to clear salary cap space before the offseason rush of July 1st, and their next trade will likely involve Viktor Arvidsson.
Edmonton Oilers rumoured to be close to trading Viktor Arvidsson for Mattias Maccelli at trade deadline
According to insider Bob Stauffer on today's edition of OilersNow, there was discussion of a trade to send Viktor Arvidsson to Utah in exchange for forward Mattias Maccelli.
Stauffer seemed to suggest that the Oilers could revisit a trade for Maccelli, if he's a player they liked.
Brock Boeser was also mentioned as a free agent option.
Maccelli is the younger and cheaper player at 24 years old on a $3.425M contract, but has only scored a career high of 57 points. He'd be a good bet to overperform his contract than paying UFA Brock Boeser much larger salary - though he is a reliable sniper.
Edmonton Oilers looking into additions at wing this offseason
The larger point from Stauffer is that the Edmonton Oilers are clearly pursuing additions on the wing this offseason to replace the losses of
Evander Kane, and likely Arvidsson and
Jeff Skinner.
Nuge - McDavid - Hyman
Podkolzin - Draisaitl - Savoie
Frederic - Henrique - Kapanen
Janmark - Tomasek - Brown
Adding another forward in free agent or trade may require the team move out another current roster player.
There's going to be significant turnover for next season, but the Oilers are clearly fulfilling their goals of getting younger and faster up front.
