Edmonton Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has hinted that a roster move could soon be coming to give top prospect Matthew Savoie a look in the NHL.
Oilers insider hints Matthew Savoie could be called up after 4 Nations Faceoff break
After the Oilers return from the 4 Nations Faceoff break, they'll only play 7 games before the NHL trade deadline on March 7th. That will be a critical stretch to evaluate all options for the team before playoffs, including Savoie.
Stauffer suggested that a call up could happen sooner than next season, perhaps just for that stretch before the deadline.
Bowman said earlier this season that he believes Savoie will factor into the equation... Under the right circumstances, there could be a Holloway-like regular season or playoff insertion into the lineup.

After playing for 4 different teams last season, and having his development hurt by COVID seasons, Savoie desperately needed some time in the AHL working on his game.
If the Oilers call up Savoie, they should be prepared to give him some opportunity to produce offence - preferably in the top six. He's an elite offensive talent that could pair well alongside
Connor McDavid or
Leon Draisaitl for years to come, if the Oilers manage him correctly.
Savoie being called up this season now seems like a matter of when, not if. Hopefully when the opportunity does game, he can prove to be an option in the playoffs this year if needed, and a piece for the future of the Oilers.
