The 26-year-old who was drafted by the Bruins in 2016 in the first round, 29th overall has been rumored to be on his way out of Boston as many feel the Bruins will not be willing to pay for a potential contract extension.
The fan base feels that general manager Stan Bowman and his team have many options throughout the NHL that are better than Frederic and that many teams would have a bottom six center who would likely play along the third line or potentially second line in a pinch.
Frederic, has seen a dramatic drop in his production as he has played 49 games, scored seven goals with 7 assists for 14 points and is a dreadful -11.
Frederic would certainly give the Oilers some size down the middle as he stands at six foot 3 and 221 pounds and is not shy to throw his physicality around as he has 42 penalty minutes and plays an average of 14 minutes and 8 seconds of ice time.
The consensus around the fan base is that the Oilers should be particular and careful with how much they're willing to spend in terms of draft picks and prospects by picking up a player who holds the cap hit of $2.3 million and who may not be as impactful as some people may think.
Bowman has made it clear that secondary scoring and defence are his two priorities for this year's deadline and players like Frederic would be on his list. But it's safe to say that he has other players he's be interested in and it all comes down to what Boston is looking for in return.
