The Edmonton Oilers are at the beginning of a tough offseason after losing two straight Cup Finals, and looking to make major changes, Darnell Nurse found himself in trade rumours.
NHL insiders have since quieted the noise around Nurse, saying that for now there's nothing, but the situation could change quickly. At the very least, his no-move clause will be changing soon.
Oilers analyst reveals when Darnell Nurse's no-move clause will relax
On today's edition of the Lowetide blog, analyst Allan Mitchell also raised the possibility the team trades Darnell Nurse, but also said a move this season is very unlikely. However, his no-move clause relaxes to a no-trade list in the 2027 offseason.
My understanding of his deal is the no-movement eases around July 1, 2027. At that time, via PuckPedia, Nurse will submit a 10-team no-trade list. I think management could make the case to Nurse one year from now and have his ear, but this summer? Man, that seems unlikely.

Closer to that date, the Oilers trading Darnell Nurse seems like it will surely happen just to clear up some salary cap space. For now, Nurse has a full no-move clause and seems content to stay in Edmonton - something massive would have to come up to change Nurse's mind.
The NHL salary cap is about to increase rapidly that will soften the blow of Nurse's inflated contract, but it looks like it will still be an issue the Oilers have to work around. Nurse is a fine 4-5 defenceman, but he should absolutely not be paid like Cale Makar.
Eventually, the Oilers may ask Nurse to waive his no-move clause, which can be enough to rock the relationship enough to grant a move. A new GM is in town who didn't sign Nurse to his anchor contract, so perhaps, he takes a hard look this offseason.
