The Edmonton Oilers' biggest roster need this offseason should be acquiring a starting goalie, and they may have the perfect target in Ilya Sorokin from the New York Islanders.

TSN insider Ryan Rishaug reported today that the Oilers may actually decide to stand pat with their goalies this offseason if they can't find a proven true upgrade over either one. Sorokin would be the one they're looking for.

Ilya Sorokin could be available for trade after Islander deal Noah Dobson for draft picks

The New York Islanders are set to pick first overall in tonight's draft, and have now added two more first round draft picks by trading their star 25 year old defenceman Noah Dobson to the Montreal Canadiens.
Picking first overall tonight, dealing a core young player for picks, and with most of their star players now reaching the other side of 30, the Islanders look more like a rebuilding or retooling team than a contender.
In search of a proven elite goalie, the Edmonton Oilers should be repeatedly calling about trading for Ilya Sorokin. Insider Jason Gregor believes he could become available for trade.
The 29 year old Russian goalie has played 253 career games since coming to North America in 2020, with his lowest save percentage year being .907 on a struggling Islanders team. He's started over 50 games in the last 4 years, and is locked up to a long term contract at $8.25M.
To give Oilers fans even more hope, insider Bob Stauffer is hinting the team may do something to give fans something to talk about today.

What would and Oilers trade for Ilya Sorokin look like?

If the Islanders do in fact begin to retool to fit the contention window of their new younger players, the Oilers need to find a way to clear cap space and trade for Ilya Sorokin.
Compared to the trade last season to acquire Linus Ullmark - who was coming off a recent Vezina Trophy - the Oilers would have to give up Stuart Skinner, top 5 prospect Beau Akey, and a first round pick.
The star goaltender would likely cost another top young player and draft picks, but it would still be a slam dunk for Edmonton.
