Oilers reporter Bruce Curlock has given positive reviews and grade for the Oilers recent defenseman Jake Walman trade where he was sent to the team from San Jose prior to the NHL trade deadline.

Curlock feels that this trade may workout better then the Mattias Ekholm trade that happened two years ago who had changed the Oilers defence for the better.

Oilers defense needed to improve to help with Cup chances

Over the past couple of months, many NHL pundits and fans across Oilersnation had felt that the team needed to upgrade its defense significantly to improve its chances to winning a cup.
Walman, who was drafted by the St Louis Blues in 2014, third round 82nd overall has had an interesting career so far in the NHL as he has been with four NHL organisations since 2019.
He has spent time with the Blues, Detroit Red Wings, Sharks and now the Oilers.
Since joining the Oilers, he has played 10 games, with five assists and is a + 4 but has fitted well on the left side and is a minutes eater as he plays 21 minutes and 19 seconds of average ice time.
In their last game, Mattias Ekholm was out of the lineup for a maintenance day and will likely return sooner rather than later.

Oilers focusing on finishing the season strong despite depleted lineup

This past week has been a challenging one for the Oilers as the team has been faced with some adversity with a rash of injuries that have plagued them since last Saturday.
During that time, the Oilers have lost Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid, Stuart Skinner and are still awaiting the arrival of Evander Kane who's been recovering from surgery all season and recently acquired forward Trent Frederic from the Boston Bruins.
Once all these players are in the lineup, head coach Kris Knoblauch will have to do some juggling and hope to find some chemistry and some runway for the players to adjust and be ready for the playoffs.
The Oilers will be facing off against the Calgary Flames on Saturday March 29th with hopes that some players will return and that players like Walman will have another strong game.
