In a recent podcast, Insider Jeff Marek spoke about why he believes the Edmonton Oilers are the best environment for Jack Roslovic to work on correcting some of his inconsistencies.
Jack Roslovic shows signs of potential in game versus Rangers
Though it is indeed a very small sample size - just 13:10 of game time, in fact - the newest Oiler showed promising signs in his first game with his new team.
Jack began the game on a line with RNH and Savoie, and by the 3rd-period, was playing with Nuge and Draisaitl, making good passes that led to scoring chances. According to Natural Stat Trick, the trio posted a 3-1 edge in scoring chances in the less than five minutes together.
However, Roslovic has been known to be inconsistent throughout the season and playoffs, a criticism that has followed him in his career: A concern that he doesn't raise his battle level when the stakes are higher.
Last season with the Hurricanes, Roslovic was a healthy scratch in six of the team's 15 playoff games, which speaks volumes considering the 28-year-old was one of, if not the team's best, 5v5 producers in the regular season.
Also, during the regular season, his top skating speed was clocked at 22.89 MPH, but it dropped to 21.54 MPH in the postseason, which ranked in the 50th percentile in the NHL. His hardest shot went from 91.4 MPH in the regular season to 74.04 MPH in the playoffs, according to The Athletic
Edmonton best fit for Jack Roslovic
Despite these inconsistencies, Jeff Marek believes playing in Edmonton is perhaps the solution, especially with
Connor McDavid leading the team with his work ethic.
One of the knocks against Jack Roslovic in his NHL Career is he hasn't always brought it every single night.
That's why I love the signing, because when you play on a team with Connor McDavid, you don't...They set a work rate for everybody, that if you don't do it, the team takes care of it. And that temp and that pace is all set by Connor McDavid.
- Jeff Marek
Roslovic has a clause in his contract that says effective November 1 he can opt for a trade to one of four teams he's listed. Hopefully, he'll continue to impress and make contributions as the Oilers prepare for another long playoff run.
