Edmonton Oilers close to kicking poor trend from previous seasons

Though we are only three games in, there has been much about Edmonton's play that suggests the team will continue to have a strong start to the 2025-26 season.
There have been many narratives around the Edmonton Oilers in the preseason, with the top-three perhaps being the
Connor McDavid extension, the goalie-dilemma, and whether the team would get off to a good start.
Oilers show early signs of bucking losing trend to start season
We all know how the McDavid extension went; now, in the span of three games, and at least for today, Edmonton has addressed its goalie dilemma, as well as its bad habit of starting the season slow.
Of course, it's quite early to say anything conclusive about the Oilers, but having a 2-0-1 record to start is quite promising, considering the previous two years the Oilers went 4-5-1 and 2-7-1 in its first 10 games.
Oilers currently sit one point out of first place in the Pacific, behind the Golden Knights, and with a game in hand. In a 'what have you done for me lately' market, a signature win over the Rangers (a shut-out for Skinner no less) speaks volumes about the team's ability to quiet the noise outside the locker room.
We've got to help ourselves out a little bit more compared to the last two years. You can build a lot of momentum and you can build a lot of confidence within your group if you get off to a good start.
You see it with a lot of teams, they get off to a really good start and then they just kind of carry it the rest of the way and they're a playoff team. So, just give ourselves a better chance at that, and I think we'll be good enough.

Perhaps of equal importance is starting the 5-game road trip through the Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions with a strong win.
Oilers' next game is tomorrow night against the New York Islanders, 7:30pm EST.
