According to a new update from NHL insiders David Pagnotta and Tom Gazzola, McDavid is still very likely to re-sign and maybe even help the team add. The Oilers may have even had some big preliminary discussions this offseason.
I anticipate him staying, but it wouldn't surprise me, if the opportunity arose for this team to add to this team from an impact side of things.

The insiders go on to suggest that the Oilers may be targeting a forward in trade, and a player who could make significant impact on the roster. With the suggestion McDavid could play a role too, there's a connection to his potential Team Canada teammates.
Given the way the Oilers forward lineup is currently constructed, an addition at forward may be a big need before the playoffs.
After the sting of losing in the Final the last two seasons, this year is an absolute cup or bust year for Edmonton. They need to go all out in every aspect, including their management pursuing major trades for star players.,
