Leon Draisaitl took to social media yesterday to address some of the fans' negative reactions concerning coach Kris Knoblauch's decision to load the 1st-line with himself and Connor McDavid.

Draisaitl settles fan reaction to Nuclear Option, saying it will change as required

The "nuclear option" is usually deployed when the Oilers need a spark, or are trailing in a game. However, Knoblauch also recognizes the benefit of having them drive separate lines to spread out the scoring and give other players opportunities to develop chemistry with each superstar.
Draisaitl's demonstrated attitude towards team success, how he responds to his coach, and respects individual decisions suggest a professional and understanding approach to Knoblauch's strategies - he knows full-well it won't be permanent, that it's only one strategy Knoblauch will employ throughout the season.
The Edmonton market is a passionate and knowledgeable one, however; they support their team, but are also vocal when unhappy about a particular decision. But you can't make everyone happy, or rather, someone will always be unhappy.
It's best then to listen to those that know best, and who are closest to the action.
Guys, we've done this, 10, 11 years, it's going to switch, it's going to go back and forth. I do think it's probably easier to coach for him [Knoblauch], when we're together, coach the bench. We've done this for so long, we know exactly how to flip-flop back and forth, and if we're together or apart, obviously always excited to play with him, always a pleasure to be on the same line as him, we'll see where it goes.

- Leon Draisaitl

Yet, here are some examples of what the fans think about the Nuclear Option:
Time and time again, it has been shown that those two driving their own lines is the key to success. The offense becomes completely stagnant outside of the top line, which forces you to run the top line 30+ minutes, which leads to burnout very quick. Dumb. - Eric Allen via X

This might actually be a good idea. Force the other three lines (especially with 2-3 NHL rookies) to drive play on their own, therefore balancing the roster with scoring threats.» - One for One Podcast via X

Clearly, the reactions are mixed, though each makes a valid point. We must trust, then, that Knoblauch knows when to go Nuclear, and when not to, and use it like any other weapon in the team's arsenal.
