Leon Draisaitl speaks candidly about McDavid's contract situation with Oilers

On Tuesday's episode of 32 Thoughts with Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas, Oilers' Leon Draisaitl answered some very pointed questions Connor McDavid's contract-saga.
Asked whether he was surprised that McDavid was going into camp without having signed an extension, the current Rocket Richard Trophy holder had this to say:
«I don't know if surprised is the right word. I know how this process goes, and I've said it from my own process; everyone's decision, everyone's process is different. He's got a different timeline.»
Of course, withy each day that passes without his signature on on a deal, McDavid's timeline becomes less and less clear, even to Leon Draisaitl.
Of course, there's a conversation about it every once in a while, but it's not like we talk about it every week. I'm not texting him like 'hey, where are you at? What's going on?' It's not like that. I give him his space, I give them their time. I don't really know, to be honest, what is really going on between them or what they're at or what they're not at, I don't know.»
During the interview, Connor McDavid made it very clear that winning with Edmonton in 2025-26 is his main focus. Yet, it's the period following next season that all are worried about.
Following McDavid's appearance on 32 Thoughts social media lit up with worried and concerned Oilers' fans, a clear indication that the issue will be a distraction in the media, whether Connor agrees, or not.
"If anything, the media is going to make it a distraction,» Draisaitl declared. «We have one job, and we're excited to start up again and create our team, create our dynamic within our team, and what type of team we're going to be. He's obviously going to be a part of that.»
It has become clear that this next season will determine what Connor McDavid does in terms of completing his next deal. Anything short of a Stanley Cup win in 2025-26 opens the door for the biggest question to which Oilers' fans would like an answer:
