The Oilers scratched Skinner in last night's playoff preview game against the Los Angeles Kings, a sign that he may not have a spot on the playoff roster.
Adam Proteau of the Hockey News linked four teams that may have trade interest if the Oilers can move Jeff Skinner: the Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, and Utah Hockey Club.
With the exception of the Sabres, each team is a fringe playoff contender that needs more pure goal scoring talent to boost their offence.
On any one of these teams, Skinner would surely be playing in the top six, instead of being healthy scratched like he is on the Oilers. That may be an attractive option for Skinner himself, who may want a fresh start after a tough season.
Proteau also mentioned that the Oilers likely wouldn't get much at all in return if they do trade Skinner - it may be low-level draft picks and prospects if anything.
Skinner could get a fresh start with more playing time, and the Edmonton Oilers could shed $3M in salary from their fourth line of a trade can be found for Jeff Skinner.
The 32 year old career sniper has only scored 7 goals and 15 points in 40 games this season, on pace for one of the worst seasons in his career.
Former Oiler Jason Strudwick has said that the team and Skinner could work together to facilitate a trade, hinting that he may accept one.
Multiple healthy scratches in playoff preview games may even be a push towards Skinner to waive his no-move clause. Hopefully the Oilers can find a solution that's best for the team and Jeff Skinner.
