Sebastian Aho managed to receive a pass straight up the middle for a breakaway towards
Calvin Pickard.
Ekholm crashed into net to stop the play and regroup
There wasn't a penalty called, and it allowed the Oilers to regroup and catch their breath to secure the win with an empty netter.
This game was important to the Oilers as the team has been mired by a losing streak that has stretched the entire eastern road trip up until tonight.
The team has been deemed fragile and worried about making mistakes, but they now get to fly home salvaging one win but showing a turn in their play.
This week will be a pivotal week for the Oilers and the rest of the NHL as the league prepares for the NHL trade deadline that will be on Friday March 7th.
Many feel that the Oilers will be an active team as they have several areas to be addressed. Rumours have been flying around the league of what the Oilers may do.
Oilers fans will have to sit back and wait to see if general manager Stan Bowman will make the deals needed to make the team better and to prepare for the stretch run and the playoffs.
