Former-Oiler draft pick and prospect Scott Lachance finally got a chance to suit-up for his new club, the New Jersey Devils.
Former-Oiler joins dad in New Jersey
Shane caught-up with his father in New Jersey when he was traded by Edmonton. His dad Scott Lachance is the head of US scouting.
The full exchange in the three-way deal involved the Oilers, Boston Bruins, and New Jersey Devils, with 50% of Trent Frederic's salary being retained using the double-retention loophole, a scenario that is no longer possible under the new CBA rules.
The 22 year-old Shane Lachance was once considered Edmonton's 12th ranked prospect, and finally got his chance to play, when he dressed for the game versus the Washington Capitals on yesterday, where he skated for a total of 7:25 of ice-time.
You may recall when he was drafted 186th overall in 2021, that Shane refused to sign with the Oilers because of his reported desire to play with his dad in New Jersey.
In return, we received Trent Frederic, who is struggling mightily for the Oilers this season. He is signed for 8-years with Edmonton at a cap hit of $3.85M per.
With only 1 point in 20 games, it begs the question of which team won the deal for Scott Lachance. So far, it's not the Oilers, though over time, it's very likely that Frederic will find his game.
But good on Shane for his NHL debut.
