Former Edmonton Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe gives his take on the loss of Philip Broberg and Dylan Hollway to offer sheets last summer to the St Louis Blues.

Lowe was a guest on the Cam and Strick Podcast where he felt that the Oilers we're boxed in financially and will feel the impact from the loss of both players several years from now.

Lowe expressed a difference of opinion of Ken Holland

Lowe also explained that former general manager Ken Holland's philosophy for prospects is to leave them in the American Hockey League as long as possible where they will over ripen and ready to play in the NHL.
Despite agreeing with several aspects of that philosophy, Lowe also feels that players like Philip Broberg should have been called up sooner where he had shown the talent but was not getting the ice time and left the team vulnerable to offer
sheets.
It became the story of the summer when both Broberg and Holloway were snatched by general manager Doug Armstrong of the Blues with two offer sheets that the Oilers chose not to match.
Both players are thriving with the Blues as they are receiving the ice time they need and their skill sets are starting to show their worth.

Oilers received picks however will need to re draft similar players

Lowe states that the Oilers now will have to attempt to re draft players like both Broberg and Holloway now they have left the organization.
There is certainly no guarantee that this can occur especially with the Oilers in a win now mode and their first-round picks are either traded away or far lower than the top 15.
This move by the Blues will now open the door for other teams to look at the options of offer sheets and may force teams to change their trajectory's when it comes to signing players and or reviewing the talent they have that may be susceptible.
