Former-Oilers' forward Linus Omark has yet again signed a new contract in Sweden, and continues to play the game he loves at the age of 38.
King of the Spin-o-Rama move still playing in Europe
You may recall Omark having gained popularity after he scored a highlight-reel against Tampa Bay goaltender Dan Ellis.
Linus had angered several NHLers in 2010 when he pulled the spin-o-rama move on Tampa Bay Lightening goalie Dan Ellis, setting the internet on fire, with comments ranging from 'spectacular' to 'hot dogging'.
Regardless of the adjective one assigns to Omark's piece of breakaway-mastery, the goal was widely talked about and has been firmly etched into NHL-lore.
It was his first NHL goal in his first NHL game, where he also recorded an assist.
And it wouldn't be the last time Omark used that signature-move. In a similar shoot-out situation in the KHL, Linus does a spin-o-rama at center ice, simultaneously flicking the puck forward, fakes a slap-shot in the slot, then fires a shot past the goaltender.
Now 15 years later, Omark continues to play the game, looking for chances to score more beauties. His latest team is Overtornea HF in HockeyTrean, one of the lower-rated professional teams in Sweden.
The move from HC Lugano to his new club took place following only 15-games, where he recorded 4G and 7A for 11 points, pretty good production at any age.
However, as cited in the Sweden Herald, Omark left Lugano for personal reasons:
"The Omark family," Lugano wrote on its website,
"does not believe that the proposed school alternatives in Switzerland are suitable for their daughters."
Omark played three-years with Edmonton, from 2010-11 to 2013-14.
In addition, he represented Sweden during the 2007 WJC and at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
