According to reports, former-Oiler fan favourite Corey Perry is off to what some are calling not only his best start, but perhaps the best start to a season for any 40-year old in the history of the game.
Wiley veteran just keeps getting better
It shouldn't surprise anyone to hear that Corey Perry is playing as well as he ever has, having watched him in Edmonton for two years. With a heart and determination like his, anything is possible.
He signed a one-year, $2M contract with the Los Angeles Kings on July 1, 2025 as an unrestricted free agent, and in the 6 games that he's played with his new team, has scored 5 goals, including a powerplay goal, what you'd expect from a star in his prime, let alone a grizzly 40-year old.
Corey Perry missed the first six games of the season, but is off to an incredible start since from a knee injury. In his first six games, he has recorded seven points, and is on a point-per-game tare, including a four-game point streak.
While he is playing on the fourth line at even strength, Perry has also seen time on the second power-play unit, where he is utilized as a net-front presence. This adds to his offensive opportunities and gives him an extra dimension to his play.
Perry was an impact player when he played for Edmonton Oilers from 2023-25, providing valuable veteran leadership, playoff experience, and surprisingly strong goal-scoring.
During the Oilers' run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2024-25, Perry was a key contributor. He led the team in power-play goals during the playoffs and came up with timely goals, including a memorable late goal with .18 second remaining in the game, to send Game 2 of the Final to overtime.
