The Edmonton Oilers organization has been named the Western Conference winner of the Dick Dillman award, recognizing the team for their top PR department.

The Oilers have now won the award 3 times in the last 5 years, showing their continued excellence handling media and PR. They're now clearly the class of the NHL, although that wasn't always the case.

The Professional Hockey Writers Association votes on the Dick Dillman award annually. This year they've announced the Oilers as the Western winners, and the Washington Capitals as tops in the East.
When discussing the award win on OilersNow, insider Bob Stauffer mentioned that Edmonton gained respect around the league for their openness during last year's Stanley Cup Final run. In particular, Stauffer mentioned Toronto media outlets shocked by the quality of Oilers media relations.
So congratulations to Jamie Cartmull and Andrew Peard. Well deserved. When you have Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on your team, your organization gets lots of oxygen.

I will tell you that several of the Toronto based sports personalities that picked up on the Oilers after the Leafs were vanquished - were stunned at how accessible key players like Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, starting goaltender like Stuart Skinner, all these guys were.

- Bob Stauffer

With an incredibly successful team featuring two of the biggest stars in the sport, the Oilers have done a phenomenal job allowing media access to give fans an up-close experience following the team. It's great for the marketing of their team, and the growth of the sport of hockey overall.
Edmonton has been the best in the NHL at making their players available for interviews, the technology they use to produce their interviews, and shooting behind the scenes content.
And of course, the Oilers haven't always been so open with the media. There's plenty of stories from the past of team executives being outright hostile to reporters. It's great to see things have changed completely for the better.
Hopefully the Oilers keep up their excellence in media, and keep contending deep into the playoffs to get tons of attention from the NHL.
