Rumors continue to swirl around the future of Oilers forward Evander Kane as he returned from his long recovery from abdominal surgery this year which many believe he may be on his way out by the summer.

Many pundits including Dustin Nielsen of TSN 1260 feels that Evander Kane may not be part of the forward group as his latest tweet shows what he feels the forward group would look like next year.

Kane likely to be bought out at end of the season

With the recent additions of Trent Frederic and the likelihood of some young players including Matthew Savoie making the team next year, it's likely Kane may see himself looking outside in.
Other pundits including reporter Mark Spector of the Edmonton Journal thanks that Kane will be bought out as he has one year remaining in his contract which holds a cap hit a $5.125 million.
The Oilers fly home on April 8 and could assign Kane to Bakersfield for games on April 9, 11 and 12.

We think Kane won't be wild about playing three AHL games. We'd bet money he won't agree to the extra two.

But we also believe the Oilers plan to buy out the final year of Kane's contract this summer. So, he has this Oilers playoff run - however long or short it may be - to audition for a new contract elsewhere next fall.

- Mark Spector, Sportsnet
If the Oilers decide to buy him out, the Oilers will have a cap hit of 1.33 million left and will have to hold that number for another two seasons.
It was well stated that general manager Stan Bowman made the attempt to trade Kane at the deadline as a few teams were mentioned to be interested.

Oilers hoping for Kane to play his physical style for this playoff season

Despite the talk around his status with the team, Kane is preparing himself to play for this year's playoffs. The Oilers are hoping to go on another deep run as they did last season but with a healthy Kane, it may enhance their chances.
The Oilers will also evaluate his level of fitness as the team may attempt to trade him in the off season as well.
The Oilers continue to finish off their season and have hopes to secure their home ice advantage against the Los Angeles Kings who will likely be their opponent in the first round for a fourth year in a row.
