Edmonton Oilers offence given abysmal ranking by top NHL analyst

The Edmonton Oilers offence is emerging as a surprising weak point for the team early this season, and the current results have them near the bottom of the NHL.
At the same time, there isn't much concern that the Oilers won't be able to turn it around.
Connor McDavid has started slow, and everyone expects him and the Oilers offence to pick up soon - but the results right now aren't good.
Edmonton Oilers even strength offence ranking 25th in NHL
According to new data from JFresh on 5v5 expected goals per 60 minutes, the Oilers currently rank 25th place in the NHL. That's no where near this offensive juggernaut expects to be.
Some fans are taking aim at the coaching staff for the sputtering offence. Knoblauch is facing criticism for too many dump ins, point shots, and a lack of focus on generating offence.
Another potential reason for the offensive struggles is the defence not helping them out either.
Evan Bouchard,
Darnell Nurse, and even
Mattias Ekholm haven't been sharp consistently this year, and it's caused problems breaking the puck out.
There's also the play of Connor McDavid. His skill is still evident in every shift, but his offence has been shut down by opposing defenceman early this year as well. Not shooting as much as he used to, he's also on pace for only 9 goals.
Some of these issues should sort themselves out over the season, and the Oilers will certainly move up the list with their offensive talents - but there are some troubling signs so far this year.
Hopefully tonight against the Vancouver Canucks, the Oilers can start to get off the mat offensively.
