Insiders expected the Edmonton Oilers could move off Mattias Janmark in training camp, but now reports indicate he could stay around a bit longer.

Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has previously reported that Edmonton may need to clear a lineup spot for another forward this year, and Janmark could be the casualty. However, now that may not be the case.

Insider claims Mattias Janmark will play key role on this year's Oilers

According to a new update from Kurt Leavins in the Edmonton Journal, Janmark has come into camp looking great and is a trusted veteran for Knoblauch in the bottom six.
Seemingly lost in the conversations this fall is winger Mattias Janmark. He has shown up to camp in excellent shape. And he ticks some valuable boxes as a fourth line winger: Moves very well, good PK man, etc. My sense is that Kris Knoblauch has time for veterans like Janmark.

With the news that Zach Hyman will be sidelined for the first month of the season, the Oilers could use another veteran forward in his absence.
However, there will be a battle for a permanent roster spot when Hyman returns. Forwards like David Tomasek, Noah Philp, Matthew Savoie, and Ike Howard are all pushing for roster spots.
Janmark may prove his worth again on the penalty kill, but the 32 year old Finnish forward was simply not good enough last year. He is a defensive specialist, but Janmark only scored 2 goals and 18 points in 80 games. Other players could potentially bring more.
The Oilers moves may very well be dictated by how players prove themselves early on in training camp and preseason games - but Janmark could still be staying around.
