It's been reported that Oilers' forward Max Jones left yesterday's preseason game against the Winnipeg Jets and did not return for the remainder of the game.
2nd-year Oiler has good showing before going down with undisclosed injury
Max Jones had a partial-chance at scoring the go-ahead goal in the 1st-period, when he had a partial breakaway that came at the end of a lengthy shift on the penalty kill.
However, a Winnipeg defender bolted across the ice to catch Jones, who was chasing the loose puck into the neutral zone at the end of his hard shift; the 27-year-old tried to force it past Jets' goaltender
Eric Comrie, but couldn't convert.
Jones' penalty kill shift for the Oilers in the first period was his last for him; he did not return to action; Edmonton finished the last two periods with only 11 forwards.
It's important to note that Jones previously recovered from a shoulder injury in April 2024 while playing for the Ducks. He also missed time with an undisclosed injury during the 2024 training camp, then with the Boston Bruins.
The Oilers, despite the injury to Jones, would go on to win their preseason game against Winnipeg 3-2, with notable contributions from its youth. Defenceman
Ty Emberson and forwards
Quinn Hutson and
Isaac Howard each recorded goals, while centre
Noah Philp had two assists.
Max Jones played 19 games with the Oilers during the 2024-25 regular season, scoring one goal and adding one assist for a total of two points.
Jones's is competing for a bottom-6 roster spot, potentially a fourth-line role, with emphasis on his defensive play and ability to kill penalties.
