The Edmonton Oilers are already entering the season with a deep lineup, but still could be interested in adding up to 3 new players on tryout contracts.

The team is already stacked with veteran talent especially up front, and insiders have hinted it could lead to a roster player being traded before the regular season - likely Mattias Janmark.

Oilers reportedly interested in adding up to 3 tryout contracts in training camp

According to a new report from the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, the Edmonton Oilers are looking to add 3 new players on tryout contracts in training camp, including 2 forward and 1 goaltender.
If there's one aspect the Oilers may be missing in the bottom six of their forward lineup, it's a physical presence. Any type of tough forward could be a fit for the Oilers 4th line, especially later in the season.
One option that's already been linked to the Edmonton Oilers is former fan favourite Klim Kostin. The 26 year old Russian forward is still currently a free agent, and likely would take a PTO to return to Edmonton.
In 2022-23, Kostin had a career best year with the Oilers scoring 11 goals and 21 points in 57 games while being an enforcer for the team. If he can provide that energy and physicality in the bottom six on a cheap deal, the Oilers could be interested.
It's interesting to hear the Oilers would also be interested in bringing in a goaltender on a tryout deal. One potential option they've been linked to previously is Ilya Samsonov, who is still a free agent after a tough year with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Samsonov is now 28 years old, but has been successful at times in the NHL. In 2022-23 with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Samsonov was able to post a .919 save percentage over 42 games. He has something to prove, and will be motivated to bring his best wherever he lands next.
With Oilers training camp expected to begin in about a month, the team will start to get into contact with tryout candidates. Hopefully, the Oilers can get one signed in the next few weeks.

Do you think the Oilers should bring in Samsonov on a tryout contract?
