The Edmonton Oilers are set to face a critical decision with their goaltending tandem this season as both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard are set to become UFAs.
»The Oilers, however, will have some decisions to make within the next 11 months. Next summer both Skinner and Pickard will be unrestricted free agents, and the Oilers are projected to have lots of cap space to utilize, even with plenty of looming extensions.
To put it simply: it's make-or-break time for Stuart Skinner and the Edmonton Oilers.»

According to other insider reports, Stuart Skinner is expected to be worth north of $6M annually on his next contract. That kind of pay raise will give the Oilers pause with his results in net.
After losing the starter's net in the playoffs two years in a row, paying Skinner $6M seems absurd. If he falters again this season, especially in the playoffs, there's little chance he'd get that raise from the Oilers.
Even before the playoffs, the Oilers need to be certain their tandem can actually win a Stanley Cup. If there's any doubt about Skinner - and there very much is - they should seek an upgrade in trade before next playoffs.
