Hockey Canada is beginning their preparations for the upcoming 2026 Olympics, and have invited 4 Edmonton Oilers to protestation camp.
3 Edmonton Oilers likely to make Team Canada, 1 likely to be cut
At last year's 4 Nations Faceoff Tournament, Connor McDavid was the only Oilers player to represent Team Canada. At the Olympics, there's much better chance more Oilers will be selected to the team.
However, both Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins missed the cut on the projected roster.
Zach Hyman will have a fair shot to make Team Canada with his hard-nosed style of play and ability to finish scoring chances next to elite players. If he has a strong start to next season, he could add to his chances of being selected to the team.
However, the one Oiler that's hard to see making the team at all is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Simply put, there are more elite centreman on the list above Nuge - but he's still a great two way play that will benefit from this experience.
It's great to see the NHL finally return to the Olympics for true best on best international hockey. Hopefully more Oilers will make the team this year, but either way, all Canadian hockey fans will be pumped to see Team Canada take the ice.
