The 24-year-old defenceman had undergone knee surgery and has been in recovery for the past couple of months. His recovery has gone well, and it appears that he is near his Oilers debut and will be granted a conditioning stint with the Bakersfield Condors.
Oilers general manager Stan Bowman has been creative in his methods to help bolster the Oilers lineup especially on his blue line. He recently acquired John Klingberg off waivers and has signed a one-year deal that's prorated had $1,000,000.
Bowman saw an opportunity to add a young defenseman as he stands at six foot 4 and 211 lbs and is also a right-handed shot. He was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 2018, third round 67th overall, third round 67th overall but has only played 22 games in the league mainly with the Chicago Blackhawks.
This pick up could pay off in dividends for the Oilers as the team has been stated as one of the oldest teams in the NHL. These moves are important especially if they work out and will help the Condors fill out their rosters and give the Oilers depth in the future.
Regula will likely see time with the Oilers once he has been cleared to play and this had a few games in the American Hockey League.
The Oilers, meanwhile, will begin their six game homestand after completing a three-game road trip against the Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks where the Oilers took two out of the three.
The team will play the Washington Capitals and then a rematch against their archrival the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday January 23rd game time will be at 9:00 PM eastern.
