The Edmonton Oilers managed to break an remarkable stat that the Florida Panthers held since Paul Maurice was hired in 2023.

The team managed to snap the Panthers winning record of 31-0 when they're holding the lead after the first or second period during a Stanley Cup playoff game.

Oilers bent but held after going down 3-1 in Game 1

Much to the Oilers credit, the team was able to withstand the pressure of the Panthers forecheck and was able to turn the game around after going down 3-1 early in the first period.
The Oilers showed resiliency and kept pushing their offence as the team crept back in to the game and manage to tie 3-3 before winning the game in overtime.
The Panthers dominance was always a fear for anyone playing them over the past three years and they showed that dominance during the Tampa series where they dispensed them in five games, one key games against Maple Leafs through 7 and dumped the Carolina Hurricanes in five games.
The Oilers will need to continue this style of play and push the Panthers to show them they are not the same team they were last year as they had lost in game seven of the Stanley Cup final.

Oilers poked fun at broken Panthers record

shortly after the game was over, the Edmonton Oilers themselves poked a little fun at the Panthers as they responded to the same tweet regarding the record.
Despite this, the Oilers know that the Panthers will come prepared in Game 2 and that this series will likely go seven games as both teams are remarkably better and both teams can win the Stanley Cup.
With the Oilers clicking on all cylinders an appearing that the Panthers will have their work cut out for them trying to contain all of the offence the Oilers have, this will be a different series than last year and there is renewed optimism now that they have taken game one and have seen what the Oilers can do against the Panthers.
Game 2 will be on Friday June 6th at Rogers Place and game time will be at 8:00 PM eastern.
