There are discussions around the possibility of the Edmonton Oilers pursuing Adrian Kempe, particularly given the stalled contract negotiations between Kempe and the Los Angeles Kings.

Possible free agent frenzy because of rising team salary cap

Many pending free-agents have been linked to the Oilers of late, given the team's commitment to winning, and with Connor McDavid leading the way with his team-first mentality.
In an episode of Daily Faceoff the hosts discussed the likely free agent candidates to join McDavid in Edmonton.
The money Connor McDavid left on the table, who's gonna take it? Is it Adrian Kempe; is it Martin Kempe?

Adrian Kempe, one of the only players that can keep up with skating with McDavid...Everyone's gonna have money [because of rising salary cap], including the Edmonton Oilers now. I wanna win the Stanley Cup, if things go south for the LA Kings. But if you're Kempe, what's the hurry [to re-sign with LA].

Concerning Adrian Kempe, Insider Elliotte Friedman reported on the FAN Hockey Show on October 10 that the two sides have a long way to go before agreeing on an extension.
«It's been pretty far apart, it's been tough to bridge that gap; it's still not close.»

The Oilers may be looking to add more offensive depth, especially on the right wing, if their current roster doesn't perform as expected. The recent signing of Jack Roslovic addresses some of this need, but you can never have enough scoring depth in the post-season.
The ongoing contract discussions in Los Angeles could potentially lead to Kempe being traded., however. According to Heavy Sports, a significant gap remains between Kempe and the Kings regarding contract terms.
Adrian Kempe is a very fast skater, consistently ranking among the league's top players for speed, especially in terms of maximum speed and bursts over 20 mph, making him a good candidate for the top line with McDavid.
