Oilers Connor McDavid Returns To Erie Otters for Personal Ceremony
It's a special night in the Ontario Hockey League and in Erie Pennsylvania where the Otters are hosting a jersey retirement ceremony for Oilers superstar Connor McDavid.
The scene outside the arena was incredible as a huge turn out on a snowy night was witnessed as thousands of fans shuffled their way into Erie Insurance Arena to get a glimpse and watch the ceremony.
Prior to the beginning of the ceremony, McDavid spoke to reporters and recalled one of his first experiences in the city itself.
He recounted a great memory as he was 15 years old standing with his parents watching the players prepare for a game and was surprised on how large these players were especially how old he was at the time.
McDavid Hold Special Place in Otters Organization
Prior to his drafting in 2015, McDavid spent three seasons in the OHL with Erie and had incredible numbers as his best season was his last with 47 games played, scoring 47 goals with 76 assists for 120 points with 48 penalty minutes.
McDavid was reunited with a couple of former members of the Otters as member of the Oilers including Connor Brown along with his head coach Kris Knoblauch who was at the helm of the Otters from 2012 till 2017 who gave his thoughts on the special event.
"I think it will be really special it will be a special night for everybody."
After his special stop, he will rejoin the Oilers will be on the road to play against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. The game will be on January 11th and game time will be 7:00 PM Eastern.
